Introduction

This project is a part of the solution for the problem statement for Google Solution Challenge 2022 The mission of the 2022 Solution Challenge is to solve one or more of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals using Google technology. In this project, we are trying to solve the following UN Goals:

  • Good Health and Well Being

  • Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

  • Sustainable Cities and Communities

  • Climate Action

"eRx" aims to provide a technological solution that aims to solve the fundamental problems mentioned above by standardising the transaction of prescriptions between different entities.

My Role

I led the design of this project from end to end. I collaborated with 3 other talented colleagues (Hevesh, Yash, and Shubham, the developers of the product) during the early ideation stage and throughout the entire project.

Goals

Our main goal is to create a unified platform/interface for standardizing the prescriptions in India. These are the following problems that we tried to solve using the product:

Standardization and digitization of prescriptions

The standardization and digitalization of the prescription offer several benefits to the involved parties. As all the prescriptions are digitized, the patient does not need to maintain a record of their previous prescriptions as it is readily available in the system. This also ensures that the doctor can look at the previous prescriptions to give an informed diagnosis.

Decreasing chances of misunderstanding or misinterpretation

All the prescriptions, regardless of the hospital or the doctor will have a fixed format that will have all the necessary information. Thus, all the parties know what to expect from the prescriptions.

Paperless and contactless product

The Paperless and Contactless transaction model will ensure that there is no need for paper, thus making the entire system more sustainable. Also, the handling of the prescriptions will be entirely digital and contactless, making it very convenient to use and share with the pharmacist.

Objective

To create a seamless digital solution that enhances the prescription management process for all stakeholders involved.

Design Process

  1. Research and User Interviews: Understanding the pain points of patients, doctors, and pharmacists.

  2. Wireframing: Sketching the initial layout of the app screens.

  3. Prototyping: Developing interactive prototypes for usability testing.

  4. User Testing: Gathering feedback from potential users and refining the design.

  5. Final Design: Creating high-fidelity designs based on feedback.

UX Considerations

  • Accessibility: Ensuring the app is usable by people with varying levels of ability.

  • Simplicity: Keeping the interface clean and straightforward to navigate.

  • Consistency: Maintaining a consistent design language throughout the app.

  • Feedback: Providing users with clear feedback on their actions within the app.

Conclusion

eRx represents a significant step forward in the digital transformation of prescription management. By addressing the fundamental problems of the traditional system, it offers a standardized, efficient, and eco-friendly solution. The thoughtfully designed user interface ensures that the app is accessible and user-friendly, catering to the needs of patients, doctors, and pharmacists alike.

eRx stands as a testament to the potential of technology to streamline healthcare processes, reduce environmental impact, and enhance user experience.
